All musicians are required to have their name on their case. All musicians should also have an inexpensive music stand for home practice. Flute: Tuning/cleaning rod; and a cloth to swab out the flute (a small silk scarf, a handkerchief, or a 15”x4” scrap of t-shirt). Clarinets and Saxes: Cork grease; mouthpiece cap; a swab for removing moisture; a 4-reed holder; and a mouthpiece brush. Saxes need a neck plug too. REEDS: the school cannot supply reeds. When you acquire your instrument, please purchase the reeds recommended below. Please purchase a whole box, and buy more when the supply gets below four. We rotate a group of four reeds from day to day, to maximize reed life. Clarinet: Reeds (#2-1/2 or Medium for the start of 6th grade -- Vandoren, Rico or LaVoz.) Saxophone: Reeds (#2-1/2 or Medium for 6th grade -- LaVoz or Rico Royal). Brass instruments: Used washcloth for draining the instrument; tuning slide grease for brass slides; a brass cleaning kit for your instrument: mouthpiece brush and snake. Trombones: slide cream and spray bottle, not ‘slide oil’. Trumpet, Horn, Baritone: Valve oil for valves. Percussion: BELL KIT and a stick bag with Vic Firth SD1 snare sticks, Encore 92R or Vic Firth M132 xylophone mallets and Mike Balter 91R or Vic Firth 133 marimba mallets. A luggage tag or name marked on bag. ID every stick with Sharpie.
